Our Story

Inspired by one of the most important concepts in rowing, "Ratio" is what gives the boat its rhythm. The harmony between strength and control, power and release. When every rower moves in sync, the boat runs effortlessly. That balance between drive and recovery, precision and flow, became our inspiration. Ratio reminds us that performance isn’t about constant strain, but about finding the rhythm that lets you move freely and efficiently. For our customers, it’s a symbol of that pursuit: to build gear that allows you to reach YOUR peak ratio- maximum strength, no strain.

Wherever and however you move, the goal is the same: to stay in rhythm with what drives you. The sea, snow, mountain, and earth in our logo remind us that motion never stops, it just changes seasons. Our gear reflects that. Handcrafted in Washington State, USA, by real skilled hands, each piece is built with intention: weightless, durable, adjustable, and versatile enough to support your personal peak.

The “Made” in Ratio Made is our promise. Born during the pandemic, when craft and resilience mattered most, we committed to building a skilled manufacturing community here at home: people creating products built to last, built with care, and built for motion.

We believe the right gear should feel like an extension of your body and your ambition handcrafted to work for you, not against you. Because every peak is personal. Every definition of performance is your own. And our role is simple: not to define your peak, but to empower it.

Built By People Who Live It

Our team isn't just behind the gear - we're out there using it. Every product starts with real adventures.

Sohier Hall

Investor

For the love of the outdoors, competitive sport, entrepreneurship, and making cool things, Sohier got behind Ratio Made, along with Tyler Simpson – a co-founder from a prior company.  Sohier grew up cross-country ski racing in the Mass/NH/VT area, raced in college, where he also picked up rowing for the Men’s crew team. He and family now split time between Seattle and Winthrop, Washington where he stays active in the community enjoying these 2 lifelong sports and anything involving trails, mountains and water.   About 20 years ago when in his mid 30s, while on a bike ride with 2 outstanding athletes both of whom were over 40, he got some sage advice that has stuck with him to this day: “after 40, you can’t fake it.  Mobility + consistency are key to keeping up our fitness and staying injury free for the long-haul.’  See you on the trail and on the water!

Tyler Simpson

Investor

Originally from the Midwest, Tyler has called the Pacific Northwest home for more than 20 years. After many years of competitive basketball (and countless injuries) Tyler discovered a passion for rowing in his mid-30s — a sport that introduced him to Sohier Hall, with whom he later started a technology company. Tyler's background is in the tech world, but he's always loved being active, whether it’s trail running or spending time in the mountains. Tyler invested in Ratio Made because he believes in supporting a company that helps people of all ages stay mobile and keep pursuing the activities they love.

You are most likely to find Tyler either on the water or on the side of a mountain - pretty much any time of the year.
